Obituary

William Douglas Brines, age 67 of Harrisburg, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 9:00 AM.
    Doug was born on February 7, 1956 in Mt Carmel, Illinois to William Lee Brines and the former Patricia (Majors) Brines-Pulliam.  He attended Harrisburg High School with the class of 1974. Doug was a coal miner for 30 years working at Sahara Coal Company #20, and then he worked at Brushy Creek and Willow Lake. He was a past local union president of UMWA. After his retirement from coal mining, he worked for Kroger Fuel. He married the former Carol Davis on June 27, 1975 and she survives in Harrisburg. Doug loved fishing and gardening as well as pulling pranks. He was “quite the jokester”. He had lots of charisma and was loved dearly by his family.
    In addition to his loving wife of 48 years, Doug is survived by a daughter, Amy Brines of Harrisburg; son, Matthew Brines of Harrisburg; mother, Patricia Brines-Pulliam of Harrisburg; grandson, Curtis Brines of Harrisburg; and granddaughter, Brooklynn Brines of West Frankfort; sister, Kim Emmons and husband Russell of Fairfield, Texas; sister Jennifer Frier and husband Harry of Heath, Texas; brother-in-law, Rush Davis and wife Joann of Sullivan, Indiana; brother-in-law, Roger Davis and partner Ron Laurentius of St. Louis, Missouri; sister-in-law, Terrie Gordon and husband Roy of Fredericksburg, Virginia; sister-in-law, Jo Anna Bilotta and husband, Paul of Saco, Maine; step sister, Cindy Pulliam Gilliland and husband Larry of Georgetown, Illinois; eleven nieces and nephews and a special furry friend, Leo who misses him dearly.

    Doug was preceded in death by his father, William Lee Brines; mother-in-law, Dorothy Davis; father-in-law; Roger Davis and wife Marge; grandparents, Kenneth and Eva Majors; and Mildred and Monroe Waddle.
     Funeral services for William Douglas Brines, will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Mike Smith will officiate and burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM, Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
