Wanda Lee (Hicks) Cole

     Wanda Lee Cole, 95 of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away at 5:30 AM, Monday, September 23, 2024 at North Port Rehabilitation and Care Center in North Port, Florida.

     Wanda was born on October 25, 1928 in Harrisburg to the late Fred and Reva (Robinson) Hicks. She married Eugene “Gene” Cole and he preceded her in death on August 30, 1991. Wanda worked as a grocery clerk, but primarily she was a homemaker. She loved music, particularly Alan Jackson’s Gospel music. Wanda was a good wife, mother, and grandmother. She was baptized at Herod Springs Baptist Church.

     Wanda is survived by six children, Patricia Markovich of Port Charlotte, Florida; Jim Brooks and wife Sharon of Port Charlotte, Florida; Ruth Smith of Bainbridge, Georgia; Mary Smoot of Destin, Florida; Shirley Chappell of Fairmont, Indiana; and Vickie Harrell and husband Leo of Bainbridge, Georgia; nineteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, and husband, Gene, Wanda was preceded in death by her sons, Randall Brooks, Eugene Cole Jr., and David Cole; sisters, Lotella Williams, and Virginia Goolsby, and brother, LeRoy Hicks.

     Funeral services for Wanda Lee Cole will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Ryan Beck will officiate, and burial will follow in Lavender Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 PM until 3 PM, Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home.
