Walter Talandis

     Walter Talandis Jr. age 77, of Harrisburg passed away on July 6, 2024, at 8:00 AM at his residence surrounded by his family.

     Walter was born on June 10, 1947, in Chicago to the late Walter “Red” & Barbara (Gulan) Talandis Sr. On November 8, 1965 he married Judith L. Griffith, and she preceded him in death on March 28, 2019. Walter worked as a welder and fabricator for the Boilermaker’s Union Local 374 out of Mount Vernon, Indiana. He later worked as a welder and fabricator for Tek-Bar, Arclair Big Ridge Mine and Peabody Willow Lake Mine. Walter was life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Harrisburg. He was also a member of the Harrisburg Hunter’s Club. Walter loved being outdoors; he loved fishing, hunting and spending time at his cabin at Saline Landing.

     Walter is survived by his son, Larry W. Talandis and wife Sharon of Galatia; five grandchildren, Hunter C. Talandis and fiancé Mackenzie Thomas of Metropolis, Laura R. Talandis and fiancé Dylan McClerren of De Soto, Illinois, Brooklyn N. Talandis of Harrisburg, Danielle M. Sutterfield of Ola, Arkansas, and Brittany L. Bryant of Ola Arkansas; several great grandchildren, sister, Barbara Marie Gwaltney of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to his parents and wife, Judith, Walter was preceded in death by his son, Walter Talandis III, grandson, “Lil” Larry Talandis Jr., and brother-in-law, Joseph Edward Gwaltney.

     Mass of Christian Burial for Walter Talandis Jr. will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Harrisburg. Father Christian Iwaugwu will conduct the funeral mass. Burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
