Virginia Louise (Back) Potter

     Virginia Louise Potter, age 90 of Harrisburg passed away at 4:55 PM, Monday, October 28, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family.

     Virginia was born on March 9, 1934 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to the late Sherman and Carrie (Johnson) Back. On January 8, 1951 she married Harold Lee Potter, and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2017. She was a member of Rudement Church and she was very strong in her faith. Her family was deeply important to her, she loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren very deeply. Virginia was a strong woman. She could accomplish anything she set her mind to.

     Virginia is survived by four children, Harold Lee Potter Jr. and wife Joella of Tucson, Arizona; Billie Gene Potter and wife Martha of Spring Hill, Florida; Darla “Kris” Holmes and husband David of Carrier Mills, Illinois; and Lisa Gayle Rice and husband Timothy of Harrisburg, Illinois; ten grandchildren, Amy Lynn Potter and Jennifer Tampa, Florida; Angela Lee Roach and husband Jeremy of Springhill, Florida; Kristina Anne Nernberger and husband Kyle of Decatur, Illinois; Andrea Dawn Thompson and husband Marvin of Benton, Illinois; Samantha Jo May and husband Billy of Marion, Illinois; Brittney Nichole Britt and husband Scott of Harrisburg, Illinois; Brandi Kay Wright and husband Nick of Stonefort, Illinois; Brandon Allen Potter of Harrisburg, Illinois; Rick Lee Rice and wife Abby of Harrisburg, Illinois; and Matthew Scott Rice and wife Heather of Harrisburg, Illinois; fifteen great grandchildren, Tiffanie Maze, Brianna Maze, Taylor Horty and husband Adam, Brylee Horn, Dawson Griffith, Zachary Nernberger; Matthew Nernberger, Reyen Endsley, Adam Rice, Deegan Rice, Sadie Rice, Kolten Britt, Aiden Britt, Riley Wright and Peyten Wright; great-great grandson, Beckham Horty; special adopted family member, Vicki Cantrell of Herod; and several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, and husband, Harold, Virginia was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Allen Potter; brother, Marvin Cunningham, sister, Margart Aileen Beaver, maternal grandmother, Anne Johnson and father and mother-in-law, Rev. Willie and Helen Potter. 

     Funeral services for Virginia Louise Potter will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Donnie Hughes will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 2 PM on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home. Memorial contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be received at the funeral home.
