Thelma Louise Abney

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Thelma Louise Abney, nee Myers, who left this world on December 10, 2022 at the age of 99. She was born on July 18, 1923 in Lebanon, MO, where she grew up surrounded by her large family. She married Stobert Brown Abney and together they moved to Harrisburg, IL, his hometown. There they enjoyed decades of marriage until his death in 1996.

Thelma was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a dutiful caretaker to her younger siblings, her three children, and her many grandchildren. She was known for her strong opinions and will be remembered as a force to be reckoned with. 

She leaves behind her son, Stobert L. Abney (Ruth) of Harrisburg, IL, her daughter, Frances Anderson (Rodney) of Woodbury, MN, six grandchildren (Howard, Darren, Erika, Jami, Richard, Andrea), six great-grandchildren (Ashley, Courtney, Kelsey, Brooke, Micheal, Dylan), four great-great grandchildren (Silas, Gage, Holland, Oliver), her sister, Delilah Dyer of Waynesville, MO, as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Howard Lee Abney, her mother, Martha Rodgers, her birth father, William Myers, her step-father, Melvin Rodgers, her sister, Norma Amacker, and her two brothers, Ules and Lloyd Myers.

The family would like to acknowledge Thelma's friend Anna Wilcox and the staff of Carrier Mills Nursing Home, who were a great help over the last several months.

Thelma lived a long and full life and will be deeply missed by her family. She was a minimalist at heart and never liked a lot of fuss. Accordingly, a simple graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 and she will be laid to rest next to her husband in the family plot.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, IL. Rev. Harl Cockrum will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to March of Dimes and envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.
