Ronald "Ron" Gene Allen

     Ronald “Ron” “Slick” Gene Allen age 71 of Carrier Mills, passed away at 5:24 PM, on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Herrin Hospital surrounded by his family.

     Ron was born on March 11, 1954 in Eldorado, Illinois to the late John Franklin and Sylvia Loreen (Fann) Allen.  On August 22, 1988 at 9:30 AM in Union Town, Kentucky, he married Luyvonne Coleman and she survives in Carrier Mills.  Ron attended Carrier Mills Tabernacle.  He was a painter and a member of AARP.  Ron was an outdoorsman and loved the St. Louis Cardinals.  He enjoyed mowing and working on lawn mowers.  Ron was very social and kind-hearted; everyone he met loved him.  He enjoyed joking with the family about their baseball rivalry.  Ron loved to sing gospel music and sang bass in the Lick Creek Hillbillies.  He would sing gospel songs everywhere he went.  Ron was dearly loved by those family and friends.  He was always helping his neighbors and anyone in need.

    Ron is survived by his wife, Luyvonne and three children, son, Ronnie Joe Allen and wife Jenny of Olney, Illinois; daughter, Kristy Dawn Presbrey of Chicago, Illinois; daughter, Elizabeth Jones of Florida; thirteen grandchildren, Joshua Wall; Jordon Wilkinson; Keyara Wilkinson; Aaron Allen; Daylin Allen; Hayley Jo Allen; Peyton Bourland; Arianna Presbrey; Ronnie Joe Allen Jr.; Issac Propes; Ben Settles; and Bella Settles; one great-grandson; brother, Joe Allen and wife Vickie of Enfield, Illinois; sister, Brenda Cramer and husband Doug of Wimauma, Florida, sister, Sherry Stover and husband Corbet of Norris City, Illinois; brother, “the baby” Mike Allen Sr. of Carmi, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

      In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his granddaughter, and brother, Johnnie Allen.    

     Funeral services for Ronald “Ron” “Slick” Gene Allen will be held at 12 PM, on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Stricklin Funeral Home.  Rev. Kenny Rager will officiate and burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Carrier Mills.  Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM, on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Stricklin Funeral Home.
