Roger Dale Langford, age 80 of Harrisburg went to be with the Lord at 10:40 PM, November 24, 2024 at his residence.
Roger was born on July 7, 1944 in Harrisburg to the late Elbert and Irene (Hathaway) Langford. He served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1968 to 1969 in Vietnam as a Construction Engineer Platoon Leader. Roger married Mona Rae Hart on August 12, 1972 and she survives in Harrisburg. Roger previously worked for Gunther Nash Mining Company where he helped sink two shafts for Sahara Coal Company, shaft numbers 20 and 21; then he worked for Sahara Coal Company on the Marion Shovel for 19 years; and then he retired in 2011 from General Electric Plastics after 15 years. Roger was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and the Harrisburg American Legion George Hart Post 167. He enjoyed hunting deer and rabbits. Roger was a hard worker, and a great provider. He could fix just about anything. He also took care of the Langford Family Cemetery.
In addition to his wife Mona Langford, Roger is survived by three children, daughter, Nancy Kay Phillips and husband Ronald of Carrier Mills, Illinois; son, Allen Langford and wife Stefanie of Arnold, Missouri; and son, John Morris Rhodes III of Marlborough, Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Miller Cruz Craig and Chase Patrick Craig; one brother, Jerry Langford and wife Georgean of Evansville, Indiana; niece, Rebecca Willis and husband Tim of Evansville, Indiana; nephew, J. Langford and wife Vicki of Evansville, Indiana; and Stanley Paul of Savoy, Illinois who was raised as a brother.
A memorial service for Roger Dale Langford will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg, Illinois. Rev Ron Reed will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army, American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign War. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM, Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation and will be received at the funeral home.
