Robert Donald Wilson

1924 – 2024

     On February 3, 2024 Robert Donald Wilson, age 99 of Harrisburg and formerly of Shawneetown passed away at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.

     Don was born on June 22, 1924 to the late Robert and Arcada (Johnson) Wilson. He graduated from Shawneetown High School, he married his high school sweetheart Alleen (Bradley) on December 30, 1944. They had eight children; she passed away February 14, 1989.

     Don joined hands in marriage October 1993 with Anga (Leach) until her death December 24, 2009.

     Services is the word that describes Don: to his country, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Harrisburg where he served on the church counsel and usher and was active in the Knights of Columbus. Later in life he became a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Shawneetown, Illinois. He played guitar in the worship group and was active in the church.

     He served many clients as salesman for Wilson Cabinets. Don was supportive to his friends and neighbors, always willing to give a helping hand. He was a good provider and supporter to his eight children.

     Don was survived by his seven children, Dianna Gliwa and husband James of Lamont, Illinois; Louise Lee of New Berlin, Illinois; Greg “Torch” Wilson and Cookie of Harrisburg; Larry Wilson of Harrisburg; David Wilson and wife Linda of New Orleans, Louisiana; Mary Butler of Phoenix, Arizona and Chris Wilson and wife Suzanne of Columbus, Ohio.

     Eleven grandchildren, Jessica Giesel of Louisiana, Cherie Simon and Corey Wilson of Georgia, Nichole Otte of Texas, Katie Maurer of Arizona; Ian Wilson of Ohio, Jason Lee of Florida, Jillian Wetzel of Indiana, Tyler Wilson, Stephanie Semon and Tasha Barger of Illinois.

     Fifteen great grandchildren, Jacob, Keegan, Cadence, Levi, Emma, Ava, Mia, Enola, Peyton, Tally, Nolen, Kallison, Kennedy, Piper and Lennox. Also several nephews.

     In addition to his parents, and both wives, Don was preceded in death by his son Steve and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, and son-in-law, Dennis Lee.

     Funeral services for Robert Donald Wilson will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 9, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg, Rev. Chris Wise will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

     Memeorial contributions may be made to the Harrisburg American Legion George Hart Post # 167.
