Paul Stanley Emery, age 91 of Harrisburg, passed away at 2:15 AM, Friday, January 12, 2024 at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg.
Paul was born on January 29, 1932, in Parker City, Illinois to the late Edwin and Oma (Milledge) Emery. On March 28, 1953 he married Joy Smith and she survives. Paul proudly served his country in the United States Army. While serving in Korea he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Paul delighted in his grandkids. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Paul was a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church and he spent his life in service to others. Paul served on the Harrisburg Park District Board for 52 years and he also served on the State Mine Examination Board. Paul was formerly a member of the Harrisburg Kiwanis Club, American Legion. Paul loved baseball and he was formerly a Harrisburg Kiwanis baseball program coach. Paul co-founded the Harrisburg Khoury League and he was formerly the manager of Harrisburg American Legion Baseball team. Paul also liked to garden, both vegetable and flowers and he knew all the different species of trees.
Paul is survived by his wife Joy of Harrisburg; son, Ron Emery and wife Cathy of Harrisburg; son, Doug Emery and wife Jana of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Blaire Hunt and husband Ryne; Blake Emery and wife Stacy; Brynne Settle and husband Justin; Bryce Emery and Reese Emery; nine great grandchildren, Ava, Josey and Coy Settle, Hadley and Holly Hunt, Kamdyn, Kallen, Kanten and Kaenen Emery; special sister-in-law, Mary E. Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Emery; brother, Cletus Emery; brother, Quentin Emery; brother, Bryce Emery; sister, Lena Johnson; and sister Imogene Crist.
Funeral services for Paul Stanley Emery will be held at 11 AM, Monday, January 15, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Dewayne Taylor and Rev. Mike Smith will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Son of the American Legion. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM, Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Harrisburg Park District or Dorrisville Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
