Othner S. Jackson, age 87 of Harrisburg, Illinois passed away at 9:54 AM, Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Othner was born on January 26, 1938, in Harrisburg to the late Jewell and Fern (Rose) Jackson. On August 26, 1960 he married Delia Thompson and she survives in Harrisburg. Othner attended Little Chapel Church on Sunday morning and Union Grove Baptist Church on Sunday night. For many years he served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Harrisburg Fire Department. Othner was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and worked as a coal miner and dozer operator for Peabody Coal Company and Sahara Coal Company. He loved being outdoors and woodworking. Othner was a hard worker who always wanted to be early any time he was going anywhere. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who would always put others needs before his own.
In addition to his wife Delia, Othner is survived by daughter, Debbie Francis of Aiken, South Carolina; son, Stan Jackson of Harrisburg, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jenna Barton and husband Andrew of Lexington, South Carolina; Patrick Francis and wife Becca of Marietta, Georgia; Eric Jackson of Chicago, Illinois; and Erin Jackson of Carbondale, Illinois; two great grandchildren, Bronwyn and Jensen; sister, Lovetta Burnett and husband Kirk of Galatia, Illinois; sister, Loretta Patterson of Galatia, Illinois; brother-in-law, Larry Evans of Galatia, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Othner is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law; Oral and Ida Jackson; and his sister, Letha Evans.
Graveside services for Othner Jackson will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg, Illinois. Rev. Steve Nyberg will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Little Chapel Church Benevolence Fund and envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
