Oneda A. (Prather) Furlong

      Oneda A. Furlong, age 88 of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at her residence at 1:50 AM, Saturday, September 28, 2024.

      Oneda was born on January 5, 1936 in Raleigh, to the late Hubert and Iola “Essie” (Modglin) Prather. On December 7, 1956 she married Pleas Furlong Jr. and he preceded her in death on May 12, 2020. Oneda was a class of 1953 graduate of Galatia High School and she formerly worked as a seamstress for Harrisburg Manufacturing. She loved gardening, quilting, canning, reading and working puzzles.  Oneda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was loved by all that knew her.

     Oneda is survived by her children, Michael Furlong and wife Robbie of Harrisburg, and Lisa Johnson and husband Steve of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; three grandchildren, Brandi Jones and husband Jarus of Carbondale; Michelle Reeves and husband Tony of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; and Ashton Morris and husband Cody of Marion; four great grandchildren, Everly and Blaze Reeves of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Grayson and Lofton Jones of Carbondale; and several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, and husband Pleas Jr., Oneda was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Furlong and siblings, James Prather, Lowell Prather, Thomas Prather, John Prather, Bill Prather, Willard Prather, Kenneth Prather, Lindell Prather, Toleda Gobin, Bonita Gobin, Juanita Stevens and Melva Jean Prather.

     Funeral services for Oneda A. Furlong will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Richard Morgan will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 AM until 1 PM, Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be received at the funeral home.
