Mona Jeanne Lawrence

Mona Jeanne Lawrence, age 85, of Harrisburg, passed away at 2:50 PM, Wednesday,

January 4, 2023, at Herrin Hospital.

     Mona was born on February 15, 1937 in Harrisburg to Gilbert and Anna (Newkirk) Healy. On November 23, 1957 she married Richard Lee Lawrence and he preceded her on May 6, 2016.

     She was a teacher’s aide for Harrisburg Unit 3 School District for 14 years. Mona was a member of McKinley Ave Baptist Church and was a member of the Little Chapel Church Cancer Survivor Group. She enjoyed cooking, reading and adored her family, which was her number one interest.

     Mona is survived by her daughters, Lisa Lee Frese and husband Tony of Harrisburg; Amy Ann Victoria and husband James of Shiloh; grandchildren, Zackary Frese and wife Valerie of Carrier Mills; Gretchen Jones and husband Michael of Johnston City; Mia Victoria of Shiloh; great grandchildren, Remington Jones, Adalae Frese and Jeffery Frese; sister, Sally Wofford of Harrisburg; brother, Bob McGehee and wife Susie of Marrietta, Georgia; brother-in-law, Steve Easley of Vienna; and several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her husband, Mona was preceded by her father Gilbert Healy who passed in the 1937 flood four days before she was born. She was also preceded by her parents Anna and Gordon McGehee; sister, Barbara Webb; grandparents, Ada “Ninny” and James “Papa” Newkirk; grandparents, Dennis B.“Pappaw” and Clyde “Mammaw” McGehee.

     Visitation will be from held from 9 AM to 11 AM, Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg with funeral services immediately following at 11 AM. Rev. Trent Duncan will officiate; burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to McKinley Avenue Baptist Church, Alzheimer’s Association, or Friends of the Library.
