Mildred (Hollaway) (Conkle) Elam

    Mildred (Hollaway) Elam, age 82, of Harrisburg, passed away at 1:55 a.m., Monday, April 26, 2021, at Linda E. White Hospice House, Evansville, Indiana.

    Mildred was born September 4, 1938, in Hardin County to the late Carrie Riley and the late Millard Conkle. She was a former business woman who owned The Wagon Wheel and Big Four Furniture Store, both in Harrisburg, Illinois. She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Eldorado, Illinois.

     Mildred is survived by three of her children, daughter, Cydney Hollaway; son, David Hollaway; and daughter, Becky (Hollaway), all of Harrisburg; daughter-in-law, Tammie Hollaway of Harrisburg; former daughter-in-law, Lou Ann Ricci of Orlando, Florida; former daughter-in-law, Karla Carrigan of Harrisburg; sister, Gynelle Baccus and husband, Don of Carterville; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by two sons, James “Jimmy” Hollaway and John Hollaway; three sisters, Berniece Myers, Virginia (Trammel) Lambert and Judy Crawford and one brother, Billy Conkle.

    As she requested she will be cremated. In addition, she requested no service. The family is planning a celebration of her life at a later date.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) (as requested by Mildred) or the Linda E. White Hospice House, (Deaconess Foundation), Evansville, Indiana, (www.deaconess.com/For-You/Donors-and-Volunteers/Give-Now ) who gave her and her family compassionate care at the end of her life. Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg is in charge of arrangements.
