Michael Wade Shelby

Michael Wade Shelby, 39, of Harrisburg, passed away suddenly at his home at 5:51 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

Born June 23, 1986, in Marion, Illinois, to Donald and Susan (Simmons) Shelby, Michael earned his Associate of Science degree from Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg. He proudly worked as a river barge crewmember, navigating the waterways he loved.

A passionate environmentalist and founder of The Blue Highway Environmental Group, Michael’s dedication to protecting the planet. An avid bicyclist, outdoorsman, and world traveler, he found joy hiking the River to River Trail and the Pacific Northwest Trail.

Michael is survived by his mother, Susan Shelby of Harrisburg; brothers Justin Shelby (Julia) of Pope County, Kyle Shelby, Dalton Etheridge, and River Shelby, all of Harrisburg; sister Hayley Shelby of Harrisburg; and nieces and nephews Wyatt, Hillary, Isabella, Hudson, and Matthew Shelby.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Shelby; sister Hillary Shelby; brother Matthew Shelby; and grandmother, Phyllis Krieger.
