Mary Belle Johnson, 85 of Elgin, Illinois passed away at 4:37 AM, November 7, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Cummings, Georgia.
Mary was born on July 1, 1939 in Simpson, Illinois to the late Paul and Thelma (Taylor) Stewart. On November 7, 1958 she married Lawrence Devon Johnson and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2017. She worked as an Assistant to the Dean for U-46 School District in Elgin. Mary was a member of Christ Community Church in South Elgin. She loved taking care of her yard and planting geraniums in her favorite color of red. Mary enjoyed going to sporting events and loved her Cubs. But all of these loves of hers, pale in comparison to the love she had for her family. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and they knew it.
Mary is survived by two children, son, Kevin Johnson and wife Connie of Elgin, Illinois; daughter, Darla Schmuggerow and husband Kevin of Cummings, Georgia; five grandchildren, Caitlin Brown and husband Chris, Kyle Johnson and Callie Johnson all of Elgin, Illinois; Todd Schmuggerow and wife Sydney and Tyler Schmuggerow all of Cummings, Georgia; five great grandchildren, Brody, Blakley, Beckett, Layla, and Nova; sister, Virginia “Ginny” Anderson and husband Gene of Lilburn, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lawrence, Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Kerley, brother, Bill Stewart, and sister, Lodema Alsip.
Graveside services for Mary Belle Johnson will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Rev. Jerry Wells will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family request that you make a memorial contribution in her memory to the church of your choice.
