Marolyn Ann Stewart, age 88, of Harrisburg passed away at 2:10 PM on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Marolyn was born on June 19, 1937 in Galatia, Illinois to the late Ewing and Mildred (Herdes) Flannigan. On July 7, 1956 she married Shannon Stewart and he survives in Harrisburg. Marolyn earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and worked for Galatia School District as the School Nurse and most recently worked for DCFS advocating for children’s resources. Marolyn was Baptist by faith. She enjoyed bird watching, flower gardening and watching anything her grandkids were involved in. Marolyn enjoyed visiting with close friends and neighbors. She enjoyed shopping at thrift stores with her close friend, Sue Ann. Marolyn was a very loving, caring and supportive wife and mother; she was “the best”.
In addition to her husband of sixty-nine years, Shannon, Marolyn is survived by her children, son, Gary Stewart and wife, Susie, of Marissa, Illinois; daughter, Julee Bishop and husband Tod of Harrisburg, Illinois; three grandsons, Casey Bishop and husband Derek Martin of Chicago, Illinois; Andy Bishop and wife, Bailey of Mt. Vernon, Indiana; Ryan Cathcart and wife, Crystal of Marissa, Illinois; two great grandchildren, Nolan and Ashlyn Cathcart of Marissa, Illinois; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Martha Stinson and husband Tom of Marion, Illinois; and two nephews, David Stinson and Darin Stinson.
In addition to her parents, Marolyn was preceded in death by her grandson, Shannon Cathcart.
Graveside services for Marolyn Ann Stewart will be held at a 11 AM, Monday, December 8, 2025 at Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Jeff Rush will officiate and burial will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Children’s Hospital or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
