Marion "Nick" Hefner Obituary

     Marion “Nick” Dean Hefner, 82, of Harrisburg IL., passed away at 6:08 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.

     Nick was born on December 17th, 1940 in Herod, IL to the late Harold Hefner & the late Helen (Lambert) Hefner. On June 24th, 1960 Nick married the late Brenda Darlene (McClusky)Hefner.  He began his career as a mechanic in Pontiac, Michigan at General Motors Truck & Coach Division. In 1978 he relocated back to Harrisburg and was employed by Sahara Coal Company until opening his own shop, Nick’s Auto Repair. He was then employed at Napa Auto & Tire where he worked with his dear friends and work family until he retired in 2020. Nick was a member of Pankeyville Baptist Church.

     Nick was an amazing father, father-in-law, husband, grandfather & great-grandfather, brother and brother-in-law.  He possessed every great quality one could have.  He cared for his family beyond measure and was always there if we needed anything.  He loved his great-grandbabies with every ounce of his being.  He said they brought so much joy to his life and he never missed an opportunity to spend time with them.

     Surviving family members include his children: Jeff & Crystal Hefner, Kerry & Cindy (Hefner) Boatright, and Steve & Brandi Hefner. Grandchildren include Breanna Grabbe, Roby & Olivia Boatright, Sykes & Hannah Thompson, Nathan & Nikki Sanderson, Dylan Hefner, Austin & McKenzi Hefner, Jacob Hefner and Caleb Hefner. Great-grandchildren; Jack & Lila Boatright, Samuel Thompson, Asa & Eden Sanderson and a 6th great-grandchild due in September.

Brothers, Wayman Hefner, and Leo Hefner and wife Sue. Sisters, Joan McNew, Myrna Jones, Cheryl Cantrell and husband Kenneth; and special friends, Randall Slaton, Becky Brinkley, and Nancy Phillips.

     Nick was preceded in death by his wife Brenda, son Scott Edward Hefner, parents Harold & Helen Hefner, brother Zan Hefner; brothers-in-law, Brian “Salty” Jones, and Bill McNew; sister-in-law, Sharon Hefner, and niece and nephew, Stacy Jones and Chris Cantrell.

     Funeral services for Nick will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Pete Slivinski and Rev. Dewayne Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2 PM, Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
