Margaret Smith Obituary

Margaret Ann Smith 84 of Harrisburg, passed away at 7:05 AM, Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at her residence.

     Margaret was born on November 12, 1938 in Gaskins City to the late Alfred Elvis and Patsy Lucinda (Wiley) Owen. On August 19, 1956 she married James “Rod” Smith and he preceded her in death on March 14, 2015. Margaret worked as a waitress at Nick’s 45 Café and Schnierle’s Café and she was also a cashier at Uptown Market. Margaret loved her family and enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and many others. She took care of everyone else first. Margaret also enjoyed sewing, baking and her flowers.

     Margaret is survived by four children, Gary “GRod” Smith and wife Jean Ann of Harrisburg; Beth Billo and husband Bruce of St. Louis, Missouri; Steve Smith of Harrisburg; and Kevin Smith and wife Angela of Grantsburg, Illinois; five grandchildren, Kyle Smith and wife Heather of Harrisburg, Christopher Billo of St. Louis, Missouri; Lauren Webb and husband David Michael of Harrisburg; Peyton Smith of Paducah, Kentucky and Cole Smith and Carrissa of Paducah, Kentucky; seven great grandchildren, Kaylee Vinson, Gracelynn Vinson, Connor Smith, Lindsey Webb, Isaiah Webb, Natalie Webb, and Catherine Webb; brothers, David Owen and wife Ruby of Waverly, Illinois and John Owen of Joliet; sister, Shirley Mayberry of Harrisburg; sister-in-law, Helen Owen; brother-in-law, Jim Cletcher of Joliet; and several nieces and nephews.

     Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, James “Rod” Smith, parents, Alfred and Patsy Owen, sisters, Velma Sittig, Frances Cletcher, Sue Cunningham, Judy Hatley and Patty Owen, and brothers, Glendale, Tommy, Wendy and George Owen.

     Graveside services for Margaret Ann Smith will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg. Rev. Mike Smith will officiate.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
