Larry Omohundro Obituary

     Larry Gene Omohundro, age 82, of the Harco area, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 19,2025 at St. Louis University Hospital.  He married his wife of 51 years Mary (Lawson) Omohundro on October 9, 1973.  He was born in Harrisburg to Rollie Dallas and June Lorene (Tedford) Omohundro on October 7, 1942 and lived in Harrisburg all of his life. 

     Over the years, Larry worked 21 years at Food Park, for many years at Double O Construction as part owner with his brother Richard, and then retired after working many years at Arclar Coal Company.  In his younger years, Larry had the love for drag racing and together with his brother, Richard raced at the Harrisburg dragstrip (Accelaquarter Raceway) and won many trophies with their 1959 Pontiac, (named Pop-a-top).  Larry and Richard worked together throughout their life at every workplace they were employed at until they retired, plus played music together in each band they were in.  Larry was a great singer and was lead singer of The Outsiders and Whiskey River Band, popular country rock bands in the 70’s ad 80’s that played throughout southern Illinois.  Larry loved his family with all his heart and prayed for them all, each and every day.  Larry was a faithful servant and worker for his Savior Jesus Christ at New Life Christian Center in Equality, Illinois and dearly loved his beloved church family that he grew so close to.

     Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary (Lawson) Omohundro; brother, Richard (Kathy) Omohundro; son, Clinton (Robin) Omohundro; daughter, Penny (Charlie) Bramlet; son, Jeff (Pam) Marcum; son, Christopher (Samantha) Marcum; grandchildren, Brooke (Jeffrey) Taylor; Coleman (Marissa) Bramlet; Lindsay (John) Abell; Casey (Karl) Daughenbaugh; Jamie (Ethan) Rowe; Jacob Marcum and Lena Marcum; thirteen great, grandchildren, Nate, Wyatt, Jenna and Emmet Taylor; Emerson Abell; Gavin Blue; Ross, Max and Ellie Daughenbaugh; Hudson Bramlet; Wes Omohundro; and Nessa and Damon Rowe.

     Larry was preceded in death by his parents and great-grandson, Greyson Charles Bramlet.

     Funeral services for Larry Gene Omohundro will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, April 24, 2025 at New Life Christian Center in Equality.  Rev. Blake Clayton will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg.  Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM at New Life Christian Center in Equality.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and envelopes will be available at the church.
