Kenneth Lee Mitchell, age 84, of Harrisburg passed on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at home.
Ken became a born-again Christian at a young age; and grew up in Tucson, Arizona. He especially enjoyed growing up around his Uncle Pard at the Gunsight Ranch. He graduated from Tucson Senior High School in 1956, followed by attendance at the University of Arizona. He was a member of the Rodeo Club and participated in the University Rodeo where he rode saddle broncs.
In 1960, Ken met the love of his life, Janeine. They married on January 22, 1961 in Tucson, and together raised their daughter and two sons.
Ken proudly served his country in the United States Army, and worked at many professions including salesman, store manager, newspaper man, carpenter, and co-founder and writer for Spring House Magazine, and received his associates degree in business from S.I.C.
Ken had a deep love and appreciation for his family and extended family, and he greatly enjoyed family functions. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and being an member of the Cave-In-Rock Masonic Lodge #444, and was often found volunteering at Illinois Special Olympics functions.
Ken was born February 24, 1938 in Butler County, Pennsylvania to LeRoy and Josephine (Baily) Bhame.
Ken was preceded in death by his mother, father, and step-father, Charles “Leebo” Simpson; his uncle and aunt, Oliver “Pard” and Cloe “Mrs. Pard” Parmer; his brother Richard Bailey Mitchell; his sister, Rebecca Hope (Mitchell) Cogley and her husband Donald Cogley Bruce; and a sister, Mary Leah (Bhame) Pope.
Ken is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Una Janeine (Wasson) Mitchell; daughter, Deborah Lea Mitchell; son, Matthew Tod Mitchell and his wife Beki S. Mitchell; son, Timothy Jon Mitchell and his wife Kristin (Schonemann) Mitchell; grandsons, Hayden Sean Patrick Mitchell, and Elijah Jon Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Kenneth Lee Mitchell will be held at 10 AM, Monday, August 1, 2022 at Stricklin Funeral Home, formerly Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Jay Herring will officiate and burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery at Herod. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM, Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Stricklin Funeral Home. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Rosiclare Masonic Lodge at the start of the funeral service. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army, American Legion, Sons of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethesda Cemetery Association and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
