Karen Sue (Howell) Ewell, 76, of Galatia, passed away at 7:52 PM, Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
Karen was born on October 12, 1945 in Herrin, to the late Robert Henry and Mary Eileen (Moore) Howell. She married Harold Ewell on April 17, 1965 and he survives. Karen was a homemaker and a member of Land Street Missionary Baptist Church where she loved her Sunday School class. She enjoyed playing the piano, going out to eat, tending to her flowers and working sudoku puzzles. Karen was a great cook and an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. She loved her family and especially family get togethers. Karen was a very attentive care giver.
Karen is survived by her husband, Harold Ewell of Galatia; son, David Ewell and wife, Lanna of Herrin; son, Jonathan Ewell of Galatia; special daughter, Deanna Whitlock of Little Creek, Virginia; brother, Randall Howell of Marion; sister Robin Koehl and husband, LD of West Frankfort; sister-in-law, Carole Ewell of Mt. Vernon; aunt, Betty Howell of DeSoto; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, paternal grandparents, Lorenzo Dow and Aretta (McCree) Howell, maternal grandparents, Guy Gustus and Daisy (Rose) Moore; two infant sisters; father and mother-in-law, Bernie and Thelma C. (Blades) Ewell and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services for Karen Sue (Howell) Ewell will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Land Street Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Harold Ewell will officiate and burial will follow in Egyptian Memorial Gardens cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM, Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Land Street Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
