John "Spider" Pearson Obituary

John Pearson, 83, of Harrisburg, died peacefully in his home Thursday morning, October 5, 2023.

He was born in Harrisburg on June 23, 1940, to Denzel and Nellaray (Franks) Pearson, who preceded him in death.

       Spider was well known for his love of sports and avidly followed several local high school and college teams. He and his brother, Joe, ran the popular bar, The Village Pump in Harrisburg. He retired from the State of Illinois. Spider loved spending time in Florida with his friends. He was a long-time member of the Harrisburg Elks. He was also a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Harrisburg.

      He was married to Pamela Martin Pearson in March 1995, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Stephanie and husband Gene Wise; a stepdaughter, Jeneane Martin; grandson Dylan Wise; brother Jim and wife Suzie Pearson; nephews and great nephews Mike, David and Kendra, Cody, Urijah and Victor Pearson; sister-in-law Pam Seright Pearson; several cousins and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joe Pearson. 

        A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Friday, October 27, 2023 at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Rev. Chris Winkleman will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to The 4 C's Food Pantry in Harrisburg IL; The American Cancer Society; or Hospice of Southern Illinois and envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
