John William Shanahan

     John William Shanahan, age 86, of Harrisburg, IL passed away at 12:13 am, Saturday April 20, 2024 at Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

     John was born October 22, 1937 in Chicago, IL to the late John "Jack" and Helen (Hogan) Shanahan. On October 1, 1969 he married Sherry Lynn Edward. John was an Electrical Engineer for Kawai Musical Instruments. He was a pipe organ enthusiast and a member of the Chicagoland Theatre Organ Society. John was a member of the Studebaker and Avanti Automobile Clubs for many years. He showed his 1928 Studebaker Commander and 1930 Studebaker Victoria at many car shows. He also had a great passion for steam engines and biplanes. He was a lover of wildlife and enjoyed walks in the woods with his cats. 

     John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sherry Shanahan of Harrisburg, IL; daughter Eileen Shanahan of Crystal Lake, IL; daughter Corinne Dimicelli and husband Sal of Cape Coral, FL; daughter Michele Shanahan and husband Jerry Kling of Dallas, TX and son Ronald Lipscomb and wife Dorothy Lamberg of Pendergrass, GA; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 

      In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Jambor.
