James Kenneth “Kenny” Cogdill, age 89, of Herod, passed away at 5:25 AM, on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg.
Kenny was born on August 14, 1936 in Herod, Illinois to the late Otho and Harriett (Hutchison) Cogdill. On June 14, 1956 he married Lucille Yvonne Banks and she preceded him in death on May 3, 2011. Kenny worked as a Mechanic/Logger, in his retirement he most recently worked for DeNeal Lumber. He was a member of Rudement Church. Kenny like to tinker and he could fix anything. He enjoyed being outdoors and never met a stranger. He was a generous soul and never said a bad word about anyone. Kenny was often known to help lost hikers find their way back to their car.
Kenny is survived by his three children, daughter, Jenny Pierce and fiancée Tony Marler of Eldorado, Illinois; son, Kevin Cogdill of Marissa, Illinois; daughter, Pam Cogdill of Marion, Illinois; six grandchildren, Jeremy Gillen and husband, Brandon of Columbiana, Alabama; Clint Milam and wife, Rachel of Carrier Mills, Illinois; Lenae Milam of Carrier Mills, Illinois; Christian Pierce and wife, Alicia of Springerton, Illinois; Alexei Cogdill of Webster Groves, Missouri; and Evan Cogdill of Marissa, Illinois; five great grandchildren, Charlotte Milam, Chase Milam, Annabelle Milam, Elizabeth Pierce, and John Pierce; brother-in-law, Jimmy Cosner; and nephews, Will, Tony and Larry Cogdill.
In addition to his parents and wife, Lucille, Kenny was preceded in death by his brothers, Arnold Cogdill and Glenn Cogdill.
Funeral services for James Kenneth “Kenny” Cogdill will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Stricklin Funeral Home. Rev. Donnie Hughes will officiate and burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 1 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Stricklin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Saline Care Center Activities Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
