James A “Jim” Mears, age 74, of Marion, passed away at 10:25 AM on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion surrounded by his family.
Jim was born on June 23, 1948 in Eldorado to Sylvester “Ves” and Irene (Harlow) Mears. He married Johnita Jones on April 6, 2021 and she survives in Marion.
Jim worked as a Director of Maintenance and Facilities for a Pharmaceutical Company. He served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam as a sniper. He attended Little Chapel Church, he enjoyed horseback riding, playing golf and guns.
In addition to his wife, Johnita, Jim is survived by four children, daughter, Jamie Dean and husband Rawlin of Canyon Lake, California; daughter, Terri Mears of Holly Michigan; daughter, Brigette Owens and husband David of Harrisburg, Illinois; son Todd Carder and wife Heidi of Golconda; seven grandchildren, Zach Haisan and wife Ashley of California; Alexa Haisan of California; Cooper Dean of California; McKenna Davis of Holly, Michigan; Mackenzie Wilton and husband Jay of Harrisburg, Illinois; Kaylynn Owens of Mexico; Dalton Carder of Indiana; five great grandchildren, Jaxon, Ryker, Camdyn, Emersyn, and Lucas; sister, MaeNell Harrum of Harrisburg, Illinois.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester “Ves” and Irene Mears and a brother Alan Mears.
Graveside services will be held at 11AM, Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Sunset Garden Cemetery and Jeff Rush will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Administration Community Life Center and envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
