James Robert Lane, age 83 of Harrisburg, Illinois passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born September 2, 1941, on Sparks Hill, Illinois to Edith and Lawrence Lane. He was the sixth of a family of eleven children.
He attended Cave-in-Rock High School and graduated in 1961. He voluntarily served in the U.S. Army for two years. He worked for the Alcoa Mining Company in Rosiclare until the mines closed. He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation after a thirty-year career. He owned a farm at Karber’s Ridge, Illinois and ran Jim’s Auto Salvage and Lane’s Country Store.
He married Brenda Adams on June 6, 1987. She died on July 16, 2019. Jim is survived by his daughter, Linda (George) Hanks; son, James “Bub” Lane; son, Brad (Diana) Lane; son, Matthew Adams; son, Mark (Ida) Adams; three sisters, Kay (Joe) Beal, Opal (David) Fields, Susie (Steve) Moore; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Brenda, son, Jason, daughters-in-law, Helen Lane and Ginny Adams, granddaughter, Amanda Lane, three brothers, Bill, Don and J.C. Lane and four sisters, Wilma “Pud” McBride, Wanda McNear, Anna May “Shorty” Carter, and Sally Barnes.
Funeral services for James Robert Lane will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Ron Reed will officiate and burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Cemetery and will be received at the funeral home.
