James “Jim” R. Eudy, age 68, of Harrisburg, passed away at 9:26 PM, Monday, October 24, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Jim was born on January 1, 1954, in Paris, Tennessee, to the late James Clifton and Mary Magdaline (Stamps) Eudy. He moved to Harrisburg in 1969 where he graduated from Harrisburg Township High School in 1972. Jim then went on to work for Peabody Coal Company at Eagle #1 and #2, where he was co-captain of the mine rescue team and he retired in 1993 after twenty-seven years. He then opened and operated J&R Concessions. Jim also raised and sold Chihuahuas and English Bulldogs. He was a member of Sons of the American Legion and a Master Mason in the Raleigh Masonic Lodge #128. On January 7, 2021 Jim finally married the love of his life, Stephanie Lewis, after being together nearly eight years. She survives in Harrisburg, along with children: Branden Eudy of Harrisburg, Misti Eudy of Harrisburg, Jake Pyle of Harrisburg, Brooke Pyle of Equality, and Gracie Pyle of Equality; ten grandchildren, Caleb and wife Makala Bishop of Benton; Antonio Eudy of New York; Thia Moorman of Harrisburg; Haylee Murrow of Harrisburg; Haleigh Eudy of Carrier Mills; Jaylin Pyle of Galatia; Jaradyn Pyle of Galatia; Braxtyn Pyle of Harrisburg; Jaxyn Pyle of Galatia; Meadow “BB” Hustedde of Equality; one great-grandson, James Briggston Bishop; brothers, Larry and wife Roni K. Duke of West Frankfort; Ed and wife Lisa Eudy of Pittsburg; Bobby Eudy of Alton, Illinois; John and wife Debbie Eudy of Harrisburg; James “Bubba” and wife Nina Elkins of St. Charles, Missouri; sister, Cindy Gholson and husband Joe of Harrisburg; sister-in-laws, Nancee Duke of Johnston City; Faye Duke of Paris, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jordyn Pyle; brothers, Gary Duke and Melvin Duke; sister, Susie Miller; father-in-law, Tom Lewis; niece, Angie Duke Cain.
Funeral services for James “Jim” R. Eudy will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 2:00 PM, at Stricklin Funeral Home, formerly Reed Funeral Chapel, in Harrisburg, Illinois. Rev. Jeff Owens will officiate and burial will follow at Sunset Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 5 PM until 8 PM and Friday, October, 28, 2022 from 12 PM to 2 PM at Stricklin Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
