Helen (Quertermous) Owen

     Helen Owen, 86 of Harrisburg, passed away at 6:30 AM, Saturday, April 29, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family.

     Helen Patricia Quertermous was born March 3, 1937 to the late Calvin and Sylvia (Robinson) Quertermous. She married George Owen on July 14, 1955 and he preceded her in death on March 9, 2022.

     Helen was a devoted and loving mother and “meemaw”. Throughout her lifetime she was a waitress at Nick’s and caregiver to the elderly, but her favorite occupation was homemaker and caring for her family. She attended every event from sporting events, band concerts, theater productions, 4H events and award ceremonies. She nurtured and deeply loved every member of her family. And in return they loved her just as much.  Life without her will be unbearable but she will no doubt be watching over us from Heaven.

     Helen is survived by her son Robert Owen and Linda Watkins and husband Jeff; four grandchildren, Kody Owen, Reece Owen, Cassandra Watkins and Alex Watkins; one great granddaughter, her “sweet baby” Evelyn Patton; brother, Steve Quertermous; brother, Gary Quertermous; sister, Louise Quertermous; all of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents and husband George, Helen was preceded in death by her siblings, Jack Quertermous, Shirley Sheldon, Dale Quertermous, and Mike Quertermous; and special aunt Ora Goolsby who filled her mother’s place.

     Funeral services for Helen Owen will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Mike Smith will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 12 PM, Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
