Gladys Payne, age 94 of Center Point, Indiana formerly of Stonefort, passed away at 9:46 AM, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 surrounded by her family and friends.
Gladys was born on November 16, 1931 in Pope County, Illinois to the late Freeman and Audie (Hicks) Hogg. On November 22, 1952 she married Everett Dee Payne and he preceded her in death on September 17, 2011. Though she was a devoted homemaker, her role extended far beyond the walls of her home. She was the heart of her family, a gifted cook, an avid gardener, and a welcoming presence whose table-and love-were always open to others. She had previously been a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Gladys was currently a member of Prairie City United Methodist Church.
Gladys is survived by her two sons, Richard Payne and wife, Beth of Center Point, Indiana; Randy Payne and wife, Tracy of Bethalto, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren, Julie, Joshua, Melissa, Ashley, Ryan, Taylor, Joe, Kelsi, Taylor, Kristen, Brandon, Meaghan and Madison; and nineteen great grandchildren, Logan, Emily, Sarah, Alex, Avery, Hunter, Jackson, Reagan, Haley, Rylee, Tori, Andi, Leo, Cash, RJ, Gabe, Brayden, Rylee and Fynlee.
In addition to her parents, and husband, Everett, Gladys was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Jean Payne; son, Ronnie Payne; and great grandson, Devon Paul.
Funeral services for Gladys Payne will be held at 2 PM, on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Darrell Ford will officiate and burial will follow in Hogg Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 2 PM, on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Stricklin Funeral Home. The family of Gladys Payne would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and caregivers Annabelle and Misty for their compassionate care.
