Gary Lynn Harvel

     Gary Lynn Harvel, age 71 of Harrisburg, passed away at 12:20 PM, Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Saline Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family.

     Gary was born on February 28, 1953 in Johnston City to the late Les and Lilly (Donahue) Harvel.  On September 22, 1984 he married Pat Masulis and she survives in Harrisburg.  Gary worked in automotive retail all his life.  He started his career working for Kimbell Auto Supply in Marion in the 70s. He then worked for Brad Ragan Tire, Raben Tire and Bumper to Bumper.  Gary enjoyed going to the drag strip.  He frequented the I-57 Drag Strip, Accelaquarter and Beach Bend at Bowling Green, Kentucky. Gary also loved to piddle in his garage.   
     Gary is survived by his wife, Pat; son, Brent Harvel and wife Christine of Virginia; son, Chad Harvel and wife Cathy of Virginia; three grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kathy Thomas and husband Trav of Oklahoma; niece, Misty Lattuada and husband Randy of Herrin; great nephew, Rylan Lattuada of Herrin; aunt, Sue Ranchino and husband Jerry of Fudgetown, Illinois; uncle, Harry Donahue and wife Karen of Marion, Illinois; dear friends, Jeff Hefner and wife Crystal of Harrisburg and Donnie Wall and wife Cathy of Harrisburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

     In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Harvel and niece Amy (Harvel) O’Hagan.

     Memorial services for Gary Lynn Harvel will be held at 1 PM, Friday, February 7, 2025 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Donnie Wall will officiate and burial will follow in Egyptian Memorial Garden in Energy. Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 1 PM, Friday, February 7, 2025 at Stricklin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Finding Forever Animal Rescue and will be received at the funeral home.
