Ethel Childs

At age 89, Ethel Childs went on to be with Lord the morning of July 11, 2023. Gladys Ethel Ballard was born on June 25, 1934 in Taylorville, Illinois to Glen and HaNora (Durbin) Ballard. She married James Donald Childs on September 26, 1953. She was a true helpmate to him during their marriage as well as in missions where she served with her husband for 57 years both in the field in the Philippines as well as home support in the U.S. Ethel loved God, church and family. She went to bible school to become a teacher and loved to write. She wrote the story of her life as well as numerous other manuscripts. She liked nothing better than to talk about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded by her husband, parents, and siblings: Nora Lea Svendrowski, Ellen Priestmeyer, Mary Ruth Ballard, Joe Ballard, and Bill Ballard; as well as her best friend and sister-in-law Virginia York. She is survived by her children: Daniel (Jill) Childs, Maridy (Marcus) Tso, Rebecca (Anthony) Lyles; grandchildren: James (Abi) Childs, Jennifer Childs, Skai Tso, Seneca Tso, Jared (Sarah) Brown, Ryan (Heather) Brown, Walt (Kelly) Griffin; great-grandchildren: Ballard, Bryson, Bowen, Kaelyn, Ellie, K.D, Lauren, Nathan, Isaac, Evan; sister Rita Sue Greer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Apostolic Church of Wasson at noon Saturday, July 15th, and the service at 2 pm, with burial immediately following at Brushy Creek Church Cemetery.
