Dwight "Gene" Eugene Griffith Jr.

     Dwight Eugene Griffith Jr., age 75 of Harrisburg, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023.

     Gene was born on August 4, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Dwight Eugene Griffith Sr. and Edwarda Lee (Phillips) Griffith. Gene formerly worked as a Special Agent for the railroad out of Shawneetown. He later worked as a contractor but most recently he worked for the City of Harrisburg in the Water and Sewer Department where he retired from. Gene was a United States Navy Veteran serving in Vietnam as an MP. He was a member of the Harrisburg Masonic Lodge #325 where he was a 32nd degree Mason, Harrisburg American Legion George Hart Post #167, Harrisburg Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Harrisburg Lion Club. He was very social gathering with friends where he could tell jokes or stories. He loved hunting of any kind and bass fishing. He also loved animals and watching the hummingbirds around the house, but most of all he loved his family.

     Gene is survived by a daughter, Chrissy Griffith Baird of Harrisburg, son, Terry Griffith and wife Austen Suchan Griffith of El Sobrante, California; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Calkins and fiancée Keaton Johnson of Norris City; Nicholas Baird of Harrisburg; Nico Griffith of El Sobrante, California; and Kai Griffith of El Sobrante, California; one great grandson, Macon Johnson of Norris City; and niece, Angie Knight and family of Equality.

     In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded by a son, Shannon Griffith, brother, Dennis Griffith, grandparents, Grandpa and Grandma Phillips and Grandpa and Grandma Griffith; aunt and uncle, “Hano” and Bill Beal, and Gladis Marie “Aunt Ease” and Gene.

     Funeral services for Dwight Eugene “Gene” Griffith Jr. will be held at 1 PM, Friday, June 30, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg with Masonic Rites starting at 1 PM. Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy, the American Legion, Sons of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM, Friday, June 30, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home.
