Donata Dene Kopman passed away at Carbondale Memorial Hospital in the company of her beloved fiancé, kids, and family. She was born on October 20, 1962, at Hillcrest Hospital to the late Donald D. and Dorraine (Schrage) Biers. Surviving her are her two children Jamie (Kopman) Harrington and Bryan Kopman, Bella Kopman (granddaughter), Denise Biers and Darcie (Biers) Melia (sisters), David Biers (brother), and Edward Tribbey (fiancé), and many nieces and nephews that lovingly called her "Nana."
Donata grew up in Beecher, Illinois then moved to southern Illinois with her late ex-husband James Kopman and raised her 2 children there. She has always been known as a sweet, caring person with a heart of gold who would give the shirt off of her back to see others happy. This is probably why she was such a great nurse for over 25 years. Once her kids were raised, she moved to Virginia Beach, which is where she continued to love life at the Ocean's edge, while meeting the man of her dreams. She was diagnosed with biliary cancer in June of 2023. Even while fighting this devastating diagnosis, she continued to have a great outlook on life, and was always worried about everyone else. She passed away during a trip back home to see her family on Sept. 6th, 2023.
There will be no visitation per her wishes. Her remains will be set with the https://www.eternalreefs.com project as she wanted. Close family and friends can plan arrangements to watch her be cast into the waters to help replenish the reefs.
