Denita "Nona" (Gwin) Jones

     Denita “Nona” Jones, age 94 of Harrisburg, passed away at 2:18 PM on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Axiom Healthcare in Harrisburg.

     Nona was born on January 23, 1932 in Harrisburg, Illinois to the late John and Josephine (Souheaver) Gwin.  On October 8, 1947 she married Jerome Jones and he preceded her in death on June 18, 2013.  Nona was a homemaker and liked to be outdoors.  She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  Nona loved hosting, anyone and everyone.

     Nona is survived by her daughter, Johnita and the late Jim Mears of Harrisburg, Illinois; grandson, Todd Carder and wife, Heidi of Golconda, Illinois; granddaughter, Brigette and the late David Owens of Harrisburg, Illinois; three great grandchildren, Mackenzie Wilton and husband, Jay of Harrisburg, Illinois; Kaylynn Owens and fiancée Paxton Morse of Eldorado, Illinois; and Dalton Carder of Indiana; two great -great grandchildren, Emersyn and Lucas; of Harrisburg; sister, LaNelle “Patsy” Hensley of Michigan; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and special sisters-in-law, Val Jones of Florida and Patsy Jones of Kentucky.

     In addition to her parents and husband, Jerome, Nona was preceded by her sister, Bonita Moore.

    Graveside services for Denita “Nona” Jones will be held at 11 AM on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg.  Jeff Rush and Brigette Owens will officiate.  Memorial contributions may be made to Axiom Healthcare Activities Fund and envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
