Dena Elaine (Sloan) Hayes

     Dena Elaine Hayes, 77 of Raleigh, passed away at 12:41 AM, Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at her residence in Raleigh.

     Dena was born on August 28, 1946 to the late Charles and Wilma (Hicks) Sloan. On November 25, 1995 she married James Hayes and he survives in Raleigh. Dena was a truck driver who enjoyed her many years, laughs and adventures on the road with her husband James. She was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. Dena was a collector of crafting materials; she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cooking. Dena’s favorite place to be was on her porch enjoying a cigarette and a cup of coffee. She was James’ best friend and the love of his life.

     In addition to her husband James, Dena is survived by three children, Lori McGuire and fiancée Rod of Minnesota; Sara Boulds and husband Tim of Texas; Rachel Boulds and husband Mike of Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Matthew McGuire and wife Abby of Minnesota; Benjamin McGuire and Carrie of Indiana, Kaitlyn Cartwright and husband Brayden of Texas; Samantha Boulds, Laura Boulds, Joseph Boulds, Mary Boulds, Michael Boulds and Catherine Boulds all of Texas; Alysha McGowen and husband Dakota of Illinois, Mikaylah Boulds of Evansville; and Jason Boulds of Illinois; seven great grandchildren, Olivia, Liam, Mason, Kinslee, Koltin, Brody and Lawson; and brother Dale Sloan and wife Martha of North Carolina.

     Dena was preceded in death by her parents; first husband and father of her children, John Overstreet, grandson John William Boulds; and son-in-law, Mark McGuire.

     A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
