David William Hinant, 75 of Harrisburg, passed away at 11:17 PM, Sunday, May 30, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family.
David was born on July 26, 1945 in Harrisburg, to the late Arthur and Mary (White) Hinant. On December 19, 1964 he married Ann "Lou" Stone and she survives in Harrisburg. David retired from Peabody Eagle 2 where he was a coal miner for 22 years. Later, he earned an Associate's Degree in Industrial Maintenance and worked at SIC for 10 years before
retiring. David was a member of UMWA Local 1602 where he was serving as the current Recording Secretary and the Carrier Mills Blazing Star Masonic Lodge #458 where he was a member for 35 years. David was crazy about his grandkids and he was a great neighbor. He was affectionately referred to as "Neighbor Dave". He loved gardening and his yard; his property was his sanctuary. As an active UMWA member, David was especially proud of helping to secure the pension and medical benefits for UMWA workers.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, "Lou", David is survived by two children, son, John Hinant and wife Sherry Graham Hinant of Harrisburg; and daughter, Shanna Hinant and Dana Maloney of Marion, Illinois; three grandchildren, Eric Hinant of Kentucky; Tyler Maloney
and Tehlar Maloney both of Marion, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
David was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arthur Hinant, Jr. and Harry Hinant, and a special brother, Darold Winkleman.
Funeral services from David William Hinant will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Reed Funeral Chapel. Rev. Donnie Hughes will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12 PM to 2 PM at Reed Funeral
Chapel.
