Darlene (Abney) Dearing

     Darlene Dearing, age 83, of Harrisburg passed away at 4:34 PM at Harrisburg Medical Center on Monday, September 9, 2024.

     Darlene was born on November 25, 1940 in Harrisburg to the late Marion and Wanda (Sweat) Abney. She worked as a book keeper for Ronnie Studio and for Pepsi. Darlene would later work as an administrative assistant for Southeastern Illinois College. She was a member of Christian Life Fellowship of Harrisburg. Darlene was a beloved Mother and “Gran Dar”. She enjoyed bedazzling and doing arts and crafts. Darlene loved singing and Appaloosa horses.

     Darlene is survived by her three children, Rick Dearing of Harrisburg, Scott Dearing and wife Lacy of Harrisburg, and Melissa Risley and husband Scott of Ridgway; seven grandchildren, Brandon Dearing of Idaho, Sierra Murphy and Mike of Marion, IL, and Lorrin Schafer and Kyle of Coello, IL, Raven Grimes of Ridgway, Zane Risley of Stonefort, Gage Risley of West Frankfort, and Nox Dearing of Harrisburg; eight great grandchildren Tristan, Trenton, Easton, Noah, Liam, Logan, Audriana, Colt; nieces and nephew, Rena Conkle and husband Ed of Harrisburg, Phillip Odle and Manny of Ft. Lauderdale, and Marci Odle of Harrisburg; and beloved dog “LuLu”.

     In addition to her parents, Darlene is preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Kaylan and sister, Patty Odle.

     Funeral services for Darlene Dearing will be held at 1 PM on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Kenny Blumenstock will officiate, and burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Friday, September 13, 2024.
