Charles Bleuford Womack, age 88 of Harrisburg, Illinois passed away on 8:22 PM, Monday, October 14, 2024 at Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Charles was born on February 11, 1936 in Harrisburg, Illinois to the late Bleuford and Florence Womack. On September 20, 1963 he married Billie Elaine Womack and she preceded him in death on March 6, 2022. Charles was Baptist by faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Charles is a former member of the American Legion Post 167. Charles graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. He taught math and science at Thompsonville High School for nearly 30 years. Charles also previously worked as a logistics engineer for Boeing in New Orleans on the Apollo 11 mission. After he retired from teaching, he worked at Walmart. Charles also enjoyed catfishing and squirrel hunting.
Charles is survived by his children, Chris Womack and Jennifer of Metropolis, Illinois; Tracy Murphy and husband Kenny of Harrisburg, Illinois; Michael Womack of Harrisburg, Illinois; six grandchildren, Kristin Atkinson and husband Jace of Brookport, Illinois; Kara Womack of Carbondale, Illinois; Emma Pappenfuss and husband Ryan of Harrisburg, Illinois; C.J. Murphy of Evanston, Illinois; Brody Womack of Jacksonville, Illinois; and Justin Womack of Equality, Illinois; three great granddaughters, Remi Atkinson, Elliot Pappenfuss, and Isla Pappenfuss; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, and wife, Billie, Charles was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kendra Jo Murphy; step-mother, Marie Womack; two sisters, Rosella Womack and Ravella Malone; step-sister, Alta Rittenberry, and three step-brothers, Lendell Trammel, Phillip Trammel, and Gary Trammel.
Funeral services for Charles Bleuford Womack will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Don Nelson will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 PM until the service hour. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army, American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
