Beatrice Sue (Burroughs) Smith

     Beatrice ‘Bea” Sue Smith, age 80 of Harrisburg, passed away at 4:55 PM, Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.

     Bea was born on June 24, 1943 in Harrisburg to the late James R. and Thelma (Butler) Burroughs.  On June 30, 1962 she married Gary Smith and he survives in Harrisburg.  Bea was a member of Dorrisville Social Brethren Church.  She earned her Associates Degree at Brown Business College.  Bea was formerly a Switchboard Operator for Harrisburg Medical Center, a CNA and worked for the Secretary of State as a Teletype Operator at the DMV.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Bea was lovable and showed her family love.  She was a good housewife and took good care of Gary and the kids.  Bea was interested in the school activities of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She was formerly a member of Rebekkah’s Lodge.  Bea liked to travel, especially to Florida.  She would do anything to help anyone and loved to make you laugh.   

     Bea is survived by her husband, Gary of Harrisburg; daughter, Darla Little of Harrisburg; daughter, Libby Smith of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Brittany Mathis of Harrisburg; Heather Mott of Harrisburg; Eddie Little of California; Terra Russell of Carrier Mills; eleven great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; brother, Roger Burroughs of Harrisburg and several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, Bea was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Ashley Little, Tiffany Foster and Jameson Russell; brother, Jim Bob Burroughs, and sister, Darlene Baggott.

     Funeral services for Beatrice “Bea” Sue Smith will be held at 12 Noon, Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Bernie Cowgill and Rev. Bernie Lee Cowgill will officiate. Burial will follow in Butler Cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM to 12 Noon on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
