Barbara Nell Kassner, age 95, of Muddy, passed away at 7:18 PM, Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Harrisburg Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Barbara was born on September 28, 1927 to the late Alvin and Ora Mae (Banks) Hickey. On July 1, 1950, she married Herman Paul Kassner and he passed away on January 3, 1996. Barbara was a retired Postmaster of the Muddy Post Office and she volunteered for many years at the Harrisburg Medical Center Auxiliary. She loved to read, work jigsaw puzzles and embroidery. Barbara also enjoyed traveling and cooking. Barbara formerly served as clerk for Muddy Baptist Church for 50 years.
Barbara is survived by two children, son Stephen Kassner (Angie) of Arlington, Tennessee; daughter, Kathy Rowlen (Curtis) of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Matthew Kassner (Jeana) of Bellevue, Washington; Will Kassner (Courtney) of Byhalia, Mississippi; Micah Kassner (Maltide) of Lisbon, Portugal; Beverly Rowlen of Harrisburg; Shauna Rowlen of Harrisburg; four great great-grandchildren, Crew, Grey, Sutton and Hattie Nell; sister, Vivian Dallas (Dale) of Wanatah, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Herman, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Lynn Hickey; brother, Alvin Hickey Jr.; sister, Ella Hutchison and brother, Harold Hickey.
Funeral services for Barbara Nell Kassner will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Will Kassner will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 2 PM, Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
