Alan Ray Brandon

Alan Ray Brandon, age 61, of Harrisburg, passed away at 12:04 PM, Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Alan was born on April 18, 1961 in Herrin, Illinois to the late Billy Lee and Shelby (Shirley) Brandon. Alan served his country in the United States Army. Most recently Alan was a truss builder for Southern Truss in Harrisburg. He was a member of the Raleigh Baptist Church and he loved playing with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed motorcycles, especially Harley Davidsons. Alan was described as “the best man I have ever known. He was always ready to help anyone in need and would give you the shirt off his back.”
Alan is survived by a daughter, Shelby Hodge and husband Kevin of Eldorado; son, Derek Brandon of California; grandchildren, Anyiah Hodge and Leighton Hodge of Eldorado, and Amelia Brandon of California; sister, Sheri Millard and husband Bruce of Palmer, Illinois; brother, Bill Russell and wife Kathy of Evington, Virginia; brother, Kevin Long of Harrisburg; nephews, Gage Russell of Evington, Virginia; Charles Long of Harrisburg; and Michael Lind and wife Katie of Sullivan, Illinois; great nieces and nephews, Samantha Lind of Clinton, Illinois and Michael Lind of Sullivan, Illinois; and great great nieces and nephew, Julianna Lind and Jaxin Lind of Sullivan, Illinois; and Gabriel Lind and Joshua Mentor of Clinton, Illinois.
In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by a brother, Dwayne Howard Brandon.
A memorial service will be held at 7 PM, Friday, July 29, 2022 at Stricklin Funeral Home formerly Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Keith Ital will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Army, the American Legion, Sons of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM, Friday, July 29, 2022 at Stricklin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in Alan’s honor may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
